Winter Season Jobs

Each year thousands of young season workers around the world take off on an adventure and explore the different opportunities for winter season jobs. This type of experience and adventure is a great way to get away from your home country and work in an environment that most people only get to experience for a short period of time.

Winter season jobs may not pay the world and in fact often pay very little but the life experiences offered and friends you will meet working in a winter job mean much more than any financial gain. The great thing about working a season is that everyone is on an adventure and generally are like minded people. season workers want to have a good time, enjoy traveling, meeting new people and exploring new experiences. So don't forget you are talking about a job here! Many people start applying for seasonal jobs abroad thinking about how much fun it would be to work in a summer or winter resort for the entire season. While it is a lot of fun you need to remind yourself that in this role you will be working a lot of the time, and unlike most jobs in regular life, you will be working while everyone else is there to enjoy the different activities offered in the resort.

Sorry for the negative start but it is important to understand that most staff working in a ski resort maybe only get to go on the mountain and have some fun one or two days a week, this is of course unless you are working as a ski guide or instructor.

Most winter season jobs will last for a spell of around 3 or 4 months, some resorts and parts of the world actually have glaciers and offer year round winter sports but the need for staff is much reduced so most companies will only offer contracts that are for a short period of time. In addition to the staff who work the full winter there are also ski jobs available during particularly busy times of the season. This may include Spring/Easter Break, Christmas and New Year. During these times ski companies and individual resorts may look to recruit additional staff to help with the increase in winter guests. This is great if you can't commit to a full season or if you would like to try and get your feet wet before jumping in and going for a full three or four month winter job.

When to Apply

Seasonal jobs generally start the application process many month before the season actually starts. So if you are looking to find a winter season job that starts in December don't wait until November to start applying as all positions will generally be full. Companies do this as the recruitment process can be time consuming with lots of applicants and it also takes time to get staff situated and trained ready for the arrival of the first guests.

Typical Day

This very much depends on the position you will be applying for, winter resorts employ staff in all kinds of different roles. Typically though you can expect to work long hours, with limited time off for little pay, still sound like fun?

One important thing to remember is that the travel business is booming right now and this means there are all kinds of winter seasonal jobs available, so take you time and research different companies and what they offer their staff, make sure you apply for multiple positions with a variety of companies and read reviews online from season worker websites to find out what previous employees say about the different companies offering winter seasonal jobs.
