Sailing Instructor Jobs At Summer Camps

Camp Sailing JobsAs a sailing instructor at summer camp you will work with campers of all ages helping them develop basic through advanced sailing techniques.

For beginners you will help them understand all of the important basics of sailing, including rigging/derigging, knot tying, taking and jibing, capsizing, recovering and much more.

Most camps will have a variety of different sailing boats, some designed for beginners and others for more advanced campers.

As the camp sailing instructor you will be expected to have a good understanding of all different sailing techniques and safety procedures.

Most camps want to hire individuals that are a minimum of 19 years old and normally like to recruit individuals with previous experience teaching or work with kids.

It is also beneficial if you have some lifeguarding or lifesaving experience. If not it is possible to complete this type of course in your home country before the summer camp season arrives.

Rate of Pay

This certainly is considered a specialist activity and therefore applicants with the required qualifications and experience can expect to earn a decent salary during the camp experience. Remember though, working at a summer camp may be a total blast but it is not the most lucrative summer job you could get. If you want a wonderful adventure and memories that will last a lifetime then look into this opportunity, if you are more concerned with how much you earn then it might not be the best option.

Qualifications

Sailing instructors are required to have a recognized sailing instructional qualification from a recognized organization. You will also be expected to have experience teaching sailing and enjoy working with children. If you have a lifeguard qualification this will also be a major advantage.

What They Say

"Sailing is one of my favourite hobbies and something that I have always been around. Spending the summer working at camp as a sailing instructor was fantastic. It was definitely hard work and the pay wasn't great but I had the time of my life and was out on the lake almost everyday doing something i love and getting paid for it!"
