Visa Advice: USA

The USA is probably to most complex of all countries when it comes to gaining a employment visa, they have in excess of 60 different visas for which you can apply depending on your status. The most commonly used visas for seasonal workers are:-

J-1 Exchange Visa - This visa is available to people who wish to travel to the USA as part of a ""cultural exchange"". It is valid for upto 18 months, it is available to people between the ages of 18 -30. There are many organizations which specialise in obtaining this type of visa for people. The purpose of the visa is to allow American citizens to have an experience of working with people from different cultures, and allow the participant to experience working/training in a different culture to learn new skills which can be applied when they return to their home country at the end of the program.

H-1B Skilled Labour - This visa is a relatively hard visa to obtain for a number of different reasons. The purpose of the visa is to allow US companies to employ specialist skilled professionals from different countries in positions where their is a shortage of qualified American citizens. To obtain this visa you for seasonal work you usually need to have a minimum of a Bachelors degree and be applying for a specialised position i.e. Ski instructor. In addition to this you must have a US company which is prepared to sponsor you application by offering you employment. This is the hard part as many companies will not offer you a job until you have the visa and you can""t get a visa until you have a job offer!
